THE LAW
DOESN'T WAIT
FOR IGNORANCE.
Most small business owners have never read a single line of the Americans with Disabilities Act. They don't know that a door handle at the wrong height, a ramp with the wrong slope, or a bathroom mirror mounted two inches too high can trigger a federal lawsuit — no warning, no grace period.
The ADA was signed in 1990. In the 35 years since, compliance enforcement has accelerated every single year. In 2023, 4,195 federal ADA lawsuits were filed. That's 11 per day. And the plaintiffs' attorneys don't need to prove intent — they just need to prove the violation exists.
That's what we hear from every business owner after the fact. The problem isn't malice. It's a massive information gap between complex federal regulations and the people who are legally required to follow them.
